Turn The New System On

The house I moved in just three months ago is over 35 years old, in a prestigious area of New York City. Three days ago, its original version of heating and cooling system was down and could not function well any more. After over 35 years of diligent service, it finally announced retirement, during my tenancy. NYC’s winter is getting colder, we had to use four heaters with much inconvenience, and welcome different heating companies’ engineers to check and estimate……Bad luck?

 

No! Three days later, today, we get a new system installed, more efficient, more safe and more healthy! Shouldn’t I thank the disaster of the old system’s turning down first, before I celebrate for the new system’s joyful birth?

 

You may say, this is just one typical thing of many trivial things of our daily life, right? Remember what Albert Einstein said, “There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle.” I would take this issue as a blessing, among many that I should count every day…… praise God for the death and new birth every day in our life, including the heating and cooling system! Part of my mindset with the old system also experienced the death and new birth as well, being tested with my comfort zone and new perspectives and attitudes.

 

Every end leads to a new start. Every closed door leads to a new entrance. Every death leads to a new birth. Every blank paper can be painted into a masterpiece……

It’s the beginning of 2014. I just moved back to New York. There have been two big snows with the second not melt yet. It’s like everything is sleeping from outside, but inside there are many active things that are beyond our eyes sight.  New lives are preparing for their births in the coming Spring. It sounds quiet but underneath there is busyness and noise. This is the season that we embrace coldness and plan to create new things with the warmth of our hearts. This is the time for thinking and movement, not for confusion, hesitation, procrastination, nor any more excuse. We need get up into action with the rhythm of the universe, to prepare for the birth of new life. And this is a process of patience.

Are you ready for a new birth?

This Friday, December 21, is supposed to be the end of the Mayan calendar, a 5,125-year cycle known as the Long Count. Many people have translated it into a prophecy and the end of the world.

What have been people’s responses worldwide to this prophecy?

While many people still do not believe in it and just ignore it, some people have been preparing for the end of the world and their fateful day. Some crazy ones even wanted to add darkness to create the end of the world. Some curious people have been inspired to share their research and thoughts on this subject. Some visionary ones are excited to call it a new age that is coming after the end of the Mayan calendar.

Some call it a doomsday, some call it a joke, some call it a lie, and some call it a new age of enlightenment.

Some are frightened and holding big fears, some are restless, some are curious, and some are excited and looking forward to it.

What has been your response? What would you call the days after the Mayan calendar? What could be the impact on you? What feeling do you have for this date; fear, anger, ignorance, or excitement, peace, or even love and joy?

Some descendents of the Maya shared that their community sees the date as a celebration of their survival despite centuries of genocide and oppression. They said, “For us, this Dec. 21 is the end of a great era and also the beginning of a new era. We renew our beliefs. We renew a host of things that surround us.” And they are aware of many global issues and are taking initiatives to save our planet. Maya descendents want to live a meaningful way through this era change.

How about you? After Dec.21, will you still be the old you, or are you ready for a new birth and a new age of you?

What kind of life do you desire the most? What would be the best of you?

Would you be a life staying at status quo, or a life following your passion and joy, and fulfilling a greater purpose?

While the clock is kicking close to both year-end holidays and the “end” of Mayan calendar, let’s find some peace with ourselves every day.

If you really desire a new birth with enlightenment, do this following exercise and get prepared for it.

• Be an observer, observing what you and others are responding to this big uncertainty. Observing also helps you get beyond any circumstance. Open the door of wisdom!
• Be an eager learner, keep learning what’s occurring around you and exploring both inside and outside. Be a life student!
• Be aware of and observe your thoughts and feelings,  acknowledge each of them as natural, and fully accept yourself. Be self loved!
• Reflect what lessons you are learning, what messages you are getting, and what inspirations you are having. Keep inspired!
• Vision your future, a new birth of yourself and a new era of yourself. What’s ideal for you? Dare to dream!
• Get back on earth, what would you do to embrace and create that new birth and new era of you? Choose the bold way!
• Make baby steps toward your ideal self, and observe what’s changing inside of you and outside of you. Be accountable!
• Be consistent and make daily progress in this self-awakening process. Recognize and reward yourself often!
