Play Your Appreciation Game This Holiday

appreciation-game

Yes, I mean real game, and I share the game rules. So read on……

After kids fell into sleep, I fell into sleep as well after another busy day. Then I woke up during middle night, got up to clean up and prepare for the next day. Thanksgiving is in the air like a dawn. In the quiet night, while I was cleaning and preparing things, all the people and things that I am thankful and should be thankful for are coming to my mind, skating through the corners of my soul, and flowing through my fingers. So I decided to sit down and record this beautiful moment.

So many people and things I am thankful, and I could not list all of them one by one. They are like the jumping notes on my children’s piano books, all playing nice pleasant sounds in my life. Whichever flushed in my mind or heart, I gave an acknowledgement of what they mean to me and thanked them.

I thank all the dear people who are blessed into my life for me to love.

I thank all the wonderful people who have taught me and inspired me.

I especially thank those who have loved me, liked me and supported me.

I thank the contractors who are doing hard and smart work in my new house.

I thank the delivery driver today after business hours who did me a favor to move and organize all the new kitchen cabinets packages into garage.

I even thanked the little turtle of my daughter, changed its tank water and had a brief shower for it.

I also thanked all the new chocolates we just bought for the pleasure they are bringing to our holidays and normal days, and those people behind them whose creativities have made them.

The list is endless……

I am thankful that I have the endless thankful list.

I also thank those who hurt me, for they teach me the important life lesson that no matter how much I love others, I should first love myself.

I thank myself for still holding love, faith, inspiration, passion and vision through all these uneasy years without giving up.

Last but the most importantly, I thank God for His greatest love and presence that has been supporting me through anything, so I am not giving in to any fears, pains and uncertainty of life.

Then while I am sharing all the thankful thoughts with you, I had a mood for a game, Appreciation Game. I guess it will help make the holiday more fun, at the same time create some meaningful thing for people with my creativity, my way of thanking and celebrating.

Here is the game idea.

  1. Find or make at least 20 little blank cards, like poker size, index card kind of quality, a little thicker than normal paper so you will feel the quality and it’s easy for game.
  1. Write down randomly on each of the card with what you are thankful for, briefly, ideally not over 5 words. To make it more logical, you can think starting from the most thankful list, to the least whichever inspire you.
  1. Mix the cards together and put them into a pile on the table, face down, with the written words unseen directly. So you have created your Appreciation Cards.
  1. Find your game partner, one or many, unlimited. You can play with your family including kids, or play with relatives, friends or colleagues, whoever are gathering with you this season in any event.
  1. Help them to understand and make their own Appreciation Cards. Let everyone put their cards pile on the table facing down in front of themselves.
  1. Starting with any sequence you all like, the person who is called or volunteered, hold their pile of appreciation cards facing down, let each of others pick one card randomly, each of them read the card they picked and give you the hint of what it’s about without giving you the direct words from the card. Then you will answer what is that you are thankful for, and give more details about it to help people understand your appreciation. For any correct answer, you get one score. For wrong answer, you get no score.
  1. After you finish one-by-one a round of answering with other players who picked your cards, you get your total score. Then it’s another person’s turn to let others pick up his or her cards and answer the questions based on the hints. Go on with this game, till you all finish and get your own score.
  1. Whoever gets the most or highest scores, wins the title of Appreciation Champion of this game! You all should celebrate for this person and shower a special treat whatever you all like. Then that’s your creativity space.

I wish you all like this new game and would try it on your party or any event. Let me know how it works and how much fun you may have! Also how we may make it even more interesting!:)
